Health Tips for the Mom to Be

Expecting a child is one of the most precious moments in a woman’s life. Women who are expecting must do their very best to make sure the health of themselves and their baby stays on the right track. Which is why, when a woman is pregnant the health of the baby and herself is the main concern during the entire pregnancy. These health concerns begin from the very first day a woman finds out she is pregnant. This is when prenatal vitamins, diet, and exercise all come into play.

Prenatal Vitamins:

Prenatal vitamins help to ensure that the baby is healthy before, during, and after full development inside the mother’s womb. They also reduce the risk of birth defect, preterm birth, and a low birth weight baby while helping the mother maintain her own health during the pregnancy.

Prenatal vitamins help provide folic acid and iron for both the mother and the baby. This is very important because the requirements for several vitamins and minerals increase for the mom to be. These vitamins are also great, and important, sources of calcium for bone and teeth development.

A Healthy Diet:

Maintaining a healthy and nutritious diet during pregnancy is also very important for the growth and development of the baby. It is best to eat a variety of foods in order to receive all the different nutrients that you and your baby will need. It is important to eat the recommended daily servings of bread, grains, fruit, vegetables, dairy, and protein. It is also best to use fats and sweets sparingly.

It is important to include foods in your diet that are high in fiber, such as whole-grain breads, cereals, pasta, rice, and so on. Dairy is also a very important component to have in your diet due to its great source of calcium. In order to make sure you receive enough folic acid you should also eat dark leafy greens, lima beans, black beans, chickpeas, and other foods that are high in folic acid.  Iron-rich foods are also important to include in your diet, as well as foods containing vitamins A & C. For example, carrots, pumpkins, and sweet potatoes are great sources of vitamin A, while oranges, grapefruits, and strawberries are great sources of vitamin C.

Exercise:

Exercise is another very important component of staying healthy during pregnancy. Exercising has several benefits other than staying healthy and feeling your best. For example, regular exercise can improve posture, decrease backaches and fatigue.  Exercise is believed to help prevent gestational diabetes and relieve stress while also building more stamina. It can aid in delivery by building stamina.

Some women worry about the dangers of exercising while pregnant, however there are a few exercises that are considered the safest and most productive. Those exercises are brisk walking, indoor stationary cycling, swimming, and low-impact aerobics. However, if you decide to pursue low-impact aerobics, they should be taught by a certified aerobics instructor to ensure the most safety.

All of the above are very important health tips for women during pregnancy that should be very well thought through. It is always best, for your sake and the baby’s, that you take all of your prenatal vitamins daily, keep a healthy diet, and maintain regular exercise.
